The Anim Tinderbox Pinot Noir 2024 offers a poignant reflection of the rugged, wild landscape of Southern Tasmania, crafted from the esteemed Tinderbox Vineyard. Perched at the entrance to the d’Entrecasteaux Channel atop Triassic sandstone, this vineyard commands sweeping views of Bruny Island and Storm Bay, infusing its fruit with the essence of this dramatic scenery.

Key Information:

  • Region: Tasmania
  • Vineyard: Tinderbox Vineyard
  • Varietal: Pinot Noir
  • Vintage: 2024
  • Alcohol Content: 13% a/v
  • Production: 373 bottles

A Challenging Vintage:
In the wilds of southern Tasmania, unrelenting wildlife pressure is a notable feature. Unfortunately, our 2024 crop at Tinderbox was severely impacted by nocturnal animals and daytime avian foragers, leading to a harvest yield of only a single barrel of salvaged fruit. This limited production serves as a testament to the resilience and dedication required to produce wine in this pristine yet unpredictable environment.

Winemaking Process:
The salvaged fruit was carefully destemmed and fermented using wild yeasts, reflecting the vineyard’s natural approach. The wine was aged in seasoned French oak, imparting subtle complexity amidst the scarcity of harvest.

Flavour Profile:

  • Appearance: This Pinot Noir presents a deep, vibrant ruby hue, hinting at the intensity and depth of its limited yield.
  • Nose: The bouquet is expressive, with fragrant notes of red cherry, strawberry, and a subtle touch of spice. The influence of seasoned French oak adds layers of vanilla and earthy nuances, echoing the wild landscape.
  • Palate: On the palate, the 2024 Tinderbox Pinot Noir offers a beautifully balanced, contemplative experience. Its perfume and purity are complemented by a silky texture and bright acidity, culminating in a refined, persistent finish—an ode to both the site and the resilience of its makers.

Food Pairings:
Despite the limited quantity, this rare vintage pairs exquisitely with:

  • Roasted poultry, such as chicken or duck, where the wine’s bright acidity balances richness.
  • Game meats like quail or rabbit, enhancing their natural flavors.
  • Vegetarian dishes like wild mushroom risotto or grilled vegetables, where the fruit character elevates earthy notes.
  • Creamy cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, where the wine’s fruit provides a perfect counterpoint.

Conclusion:
The Anim Tinderbox Pinot Noir 2024 is more than a wine; it is a tribute to the land’s wild beauty and the perseverance of its growers. Limited to just 373 bottles, each glass embodies the rugged spirit of Southern Tasmania—an intimate glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of crafting wine amidst nature’s unpredictability. This vintage invites discerning enthusiasts to reflect on resilience, purity, and the intricate beauty of a truly wild terroir.
