Masataka Taketsuru's passion took him to Scotland to learn the art of distilling. Returning to Japan, the father of Japanese whisky founded Japan's first malt distillery and carefully created a whisky with the very finest fragrance, body and taste.
The Nikka Taketsuru 17 is a blend of the two Nikka single malts and combines the strong character of Yoichi with the elegance and precision of Miyagikyo. Both masculine and feminine, traditional and innovative, this outstanding pure malt is a worthy tribute to Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky and founder of Nikka.
Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Old Whisky is another pinnacle of blended whisky for Nikka and was selected as world’s best blended malt three times, making the Taketsuru 17 one of the great whiskies of our times.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Fresh and fruity with fruit salad, berries, sultanas and some other dried fruit, vanilla, fragrant wood and honey.
Palate: Spicy and rounded with vanilla, blood orange and a little chocolate.
Finish: Medium-length, slightly bittersweet, oak, fruit and cocoa.
"A lovely sweet spice hits your nose that is very inviting. There's a smoky aroma, but it has more of a sweet char rather than a vegetal peat quality to it. Gentle peat comes through on the palate, but is intermixed with creamy vanilla and pear fruit. Though the finish could be longer, it is pleasurable." - Stephanie Moreno, Distiller (92 Points)
