Glinting hues of red underpin the name of this unique whisky and speak to its intense flavours.

The Macallan Ruby sits at the pinnacle of The Macallan 1824 Series. As the darkest and richest single malt in range, it embodies our commitment to 100% natural colour drawn from the casks that mature our rich spirit.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Ruby.

Nose: Disturbed from a long sleep in a dark and quiet warehouse, European oak piques the nose before reluctantly admitting rich, dried fruits and an edgy trickle of treacle. A hesitant sweetness enters, then oak reasserts itself, burnished and mature.

Palate: A rush of ginger, nutmeg and resin herald orange, sultana and raisin with their restrained but pervasive sweetness. Clove is here and gone, leaving oak the undisputed maestro.

Finish: The finish is long, lingering and reflective.

"Obviously the color is dark and invites one to think of red fruits. Not a bad idea since I get on the nose plenty of dry fruits like prunes and raisins, but also dark chocolate and tobacco. On the mouth, the body is actually lighter than you would expect, but also spicier, with cinnamon and almost chili pepper. Then it comes back to the dry fruits and chocolate listed above, before showing more caramel aromas, without being over sweet. This is a complex whisky that is constantly evolving and changing its profile. In a very good way." - Julien Le Doare, Distiller (90 Points)

"Rooted in the earth and redolent of late autumn. There's a plummy thread that runs through this range; here we've gone to prune, mixed with dried cherries, and a sweet/savory edge whose whiff of heavy rose petal is reminiscent of Barolo. Robust, yet sweet. Heady, like chocolate-covered Turkish Delight. The palate has oloroso notes alongside Assam-like tannins. One to have with water on the side. Classical in structure and aromatics, but that vinous sweetness is new." - Dave Broom, Whisky Advocate (90 Points)
