Created in honor of the wedding on January 8, 1920 in Glasdow of the founder of Nikka Masataka Taketsuru with Jessie Roberta Cowen, better known as Rita, Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Wood Finish is a limited edition of the single malt from the Miyagikyo distillery.

This expression is aged in various casks including new American Oak and Sherry casks, before getting the apple Brandy cask finishing, giving it the sweetness from the apples that highlights the pear and gentle peaty notes.

By aging the single malt Yoichi – which has a powerful and rich flavor – further in apple brandy barrels, it achieves a harmony of rich sweetness and light peat notes. The sweet aroma of apple compote and the rich aroma of malt, are reminiscent of apple pie and fruit cookies, with a subtle sweetness of peat and wheat.

Non-chill filtered.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Pale yellow.

Aroma: Rich caramel and vanilla mingle with hints of ripe apples and toasted oak.

Palate: Smooth and velvety, with notes of honeyed fruit, cinnamon spice, and a subtle hint of floral sweetness.

Finish: Lingering warmth with a touch of nuttiness, leaving a lasting impression of orchard fruits and oak.

"A whisky walks into an apple brandy barrel, and comes out tasting and smelling like... papayas and mangoes? True story. Supporting characters include rich honey and its friend burnt sugar, along with toasted pumpkin seeds, vanilla, and dulce de leche, The closing scene takes place in a smoky café, with a dialogue over espresso and a bowl of walnuts. In all, an intriguing sipper that's probably best left to a final dram as it would be a tough act to follow." - Amanda Schuster, Distiller (91 Points)
