Discover the 2023 MMAD Shiraz, an expressive and finely crafted wine from 80-year-old vines in McLaren Vale’s Blewitt Springs. Crafted by some of Australia's most respected winemakers, this Shiraz offers remarkable elegance, subtle complexity, and impressive cellaring potential, reimagining the classic McLaren Vale style with a lighter, more detailed touch.

Key Information and Highlights:

  • Region: McLaren Vale, South Australia
  • Vintage: 2023
  • Alcohol Content: 13.5%
  • Volume: 750ml Bottle
  • Ingredients: Sourced from ancient vines planted in 1941, grown in sandy, ironstone-rich soils of Blewitt Springs. The vintage was both late and cool, resulting in concentrated fruit with finesse. The grapes were handled gently, with some whole bunch inclusion, fermented in concrete and large-format oak to emphasize perfume and shape rather than power.

Producer Background:
MMAD Wines is a project of some of Australia’s most esteemed winemakers, dedicated to crafting wines that showcase the nuance and elegance of McLaren Vale. Their approach respects the vineyard’s age and terroir, focusing on balance, finesse, and longevity. The 2023 MMAD Shiraz exemplifies their skill, offering a fresh perspective on McLaren Vale Shiraz—lighter, detailed, and built to age gracefully.

Flavour Profile:

  • Appearance: Deep ruby with a hint of violet.
  • Nose: Lifted aromatics of dark cherry, cassis, and rose, with subtle undertones of anise, pepper, and earth.
  • Palate: Tightly coiled and elegant, with bright acidity, fine tannins, and a mineral-driven core. Flavors of dark cherry, cassis, and a touch of spice are woven together with a mineral pulse and graphite grip that provides structure and depth. The wine’s understated power hints at great aging potential.

Food Pairings:
Enjoy the 2023 MMAD Shiraz with:

  • Roasted or grilled lamb and beef dishes that benefit from its structure and finesse.
  • Earthy vegetable stews or mushroom risottos that highlight its mineral character.
  • Aged hard cheeses that complement its refined tannins and complexity.

Cellaring:
While enjoyable now with its vibrant, sinewy character, this wine is built for the cellar, promising further development of its intricate layers and quiet complexity over the next 10+ years.

Experience the 2023 MMAD Shiraz for its elegant restraint, layered complexity, and age-worthy potential—an outstanding expression of McLaren Vale’s finest old vines, crafted with finesse and respect for its terroir.
