ARDBEG PERPETUUM Single Malt Whisky Ardbeg Distillery (Scottish Gaelic: Taigh-stail Àirde Beaga) is a Scotch whisky distillery in Ardbeg on the south coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides group of islands. The distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky. The distillery uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen. The Ardbeg distillery has been producing whisky since 1798 and began commercial production in 1815. Perpetuum is a vatting of young and old Ardbeg from ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Absent of much of the superfluous marketing of previous Ardbeg Day releases, Bill Lumsden has instead let the whisky do the talking. Celebrating 200 years of Ardbeg with a whisky named to celebrate a hopefully neverending future. Only 12,000 bottles produced worldwide. Nose: Aromas of tar, soot and pine resin that leads to dark chocolate, treacle toffee, and a distant, nutty/oaky note. Water initiates fresh, briny sea-spray, linseed oil, and a pine resin/lime top note. Remarkably fresh for such a peaty whisky. Taste: The palate is intense, robust peat smoke, savoury smoky bacon, cinnamon and nutmeg, but also an incredible creamy, sweet vanilla/milk chocolate note. Finish: Has a never-ending aftertaste sees more linseed oil (a hint of the Sherry Casks), creosote and tar, but understated, always gentle.
