The Montilla Wine Seasoned Cask is a story of instinct, experimentation and patience. Hand-selected by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie from the hidden corners of Warehouse 24, this single malt represents a bold creative step - maturing The Balvenie’s delicate spirit in European oak casks seasoned with sweet wine from Montilla, a sun-soaked town in southern Spain.
Traditionally associated with sherry, Montilla wines bring a different richness - lighter, more nuanced, yet full of character. The oak, once infused with this wine, coaxes unexpected depths from the spirit. The result? A refined whisky bursting with candied sweetness, balanced by warming spice and mellow vanilla oak.
This isn’t about breaking from tradition - it’s about building on it. Kelsey brings a unique blend of scientific knowledge and craft intuition to her role. With a Master’s in Distilling and a lifelong curiosity, she continues to explore The Balvenie’s ageing casks with fresh eyes, drawing from them rare and remarkable releases that might otherwise remain undiscovered.
