Let’s lift a glass to the long shots. Their pursuit made Kentucky the world’s single most important place for the two things essential to civilized life – Thoroughbred horses and whiskey. While the land has been tamed, and glowing cities now crown the Bluegrass, the dedication to pursuit is as strong as ever.
We finish our rye in small batches, enhancing the spirit’s natural characteristics with our signature Blackwood toasting process. The result is pure joy that lingers on the palate like a winning ticket in your pocket. At 65-1.
Mash Bill: 95% Rye, 5% Malted Barley.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Toasted oak, caramel, vanilla, baking spice, and bright rye grain.
Palate: Rich caramel, brown sugar, roasted vanilla, peppery rye spice, and sweet oak.
Mid-palate: Layered texture with deeper toasted wood, warming spice, and a subtle savory edge.
Finish: Long, warming, and full with lingering oak, spice, and sweet rye character.
"Incredible rye. It's spicy, decadent and jam-packed with flavor. Blackwood is a newcomer on the market, but it's putting out good enough whiskey to go toe to toe with industry powerhouses." - David Morrow, The Daily Pour (92 Points)
"Overall I’m very impressed with this. It offers a much different experience than the Michter’s Toasted does. The rye is very prevalent on the nose for me. It’s not so much there on the palate, but it adds a level of complexity, and the finish is just honey graham sweet. The raw sugar cane flavor was totally unexpected and caught me off guard. It definitely scored higher than I thought it would, and overall it’s a very interesting pour." - /r/bourbon (user: Cthulu_hoop)
"Blackwood toasted rye is a striking expression of what craft rye whiskey can achieve when ambition, technique, and Kentucky heritage converge. It’s a whiskey for the serious sipper—bold yet balanced, toasted yet nuanced, local yet world-class. At ~$160, it’s not everyday drinking—but as an occasional treat or collector’s bottle in Kentucky, it more than earns its keep." - Brian Jones, Louisville AM
"I’d be shocked if this didn’t win some huge awards. It’s a perfect whiskey, rye or not. It’s a short run, so you need to move fast to get some." - Zach Johnston, Uproxx
