Bushmills 16 year old single malt whiskey is aged for 16 years in a combination of Oloroso sherry and bourbon-seasoned casks, then matured for about 1 year in port wine barrels. This unique maturation process gives this single malt its distinct notes of juicy fruits, nuts and spice, as well as a hint of ruby redness.
Best enjoyed neat, or over ice.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Dark, ruby red
Nose: Big and robust. Treacle toffee and sweet spice
Taste: Concentrated and full bodied. Caramelised fruits, port and toasted nuts
Finish: Deep, jammed berries and milk chocolate
"The fragrance on the nose is quite intense with dried fruit and nuts due to the wine finishes on most of the whiskey. Oatmeal raisin cookies, nuts, a dose of dark chocolate, these are all presented on a silver platter. There is an amiable amount of char smoke throughout the dram." - Stephanie Moreno, Distiller (92 Points)
"Distinctive for its classic three-wood maturation profile, this has complex layers of dark fruits to unravel on the nose: Dried cranberry and blackberry mingle with walnut and black pepper. It's a satisfyingly smooth and spicy number amid the flavorsome tussle of port and sherry elements in the mouth. Damson and other plums occupy the mid-palate; it's enjoyably nutty and soaked in delicious portwood flavors." - Jonny McCormick, Whisky Advocate (90 Points)
