From a cooler, damp vintage, this wine features layers of silky, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and vibrant red fruit aromas of cranberry and white pepper. Key Information and Highlights:
- Region: Fighting Gully Road, Victoria
- Vintage: 2022
- Alcohol Content: 14.0%
- Volume: 750ml
- Ingredients: 100% Grenache, vinified with a mix of hand-picked fruit fermented in small stainless-steel vats and carbonic maceration. Aged for 12 months in seasoned 600L demi-muids, enhancing its texture and complexity.
- Vigneron: Mark Walpole
The Vintage:
The 2022 season was cooler and damp, with regular rainfall and prevailing winds preserving aromatics and resulting in softer tannins compared to typical wines from the vineyard. These conditions contributed to a more delicate and aromatic expression of Grenache.
Vinification:
Two-thirds of the fruit was hand-picked, destemmed, crushed, and gently fermented in small stainless-steel vats. The remaining fruit underwent 100% carbonic maceration, with destemming after seven days, in open vats at controlled temperatures to retain aromatics and avoid excessive tannin extraction.
Inspiration:
Recognizing climate change, the decision to include Grenache in the vineyard was driven by its resilience and ability to thrive in evolving conditions. As Pinot Noir becomes more challenging to grow, Grenache offers a stylish, climate-resilient alternative with a similar appeal.
Flavour Profile:
- Appearance: Bright crimson with a medium weight, inviting and fresh.
- Bouquet: Layers of white pepper, spicy notes, and lifted cranberry and red fruit aromas.
- Palate: Medium-bodied with silky, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a fresh, spicy finish that makes it a versatile and food-friendly choice.
Food Pairings:
Enjoy the Fighting Gully Road Grenache 2022 with:
- Roast Duck or Chicken: Complements the wine’s spice and fruit profile.
- Mediterranean Dishes: Perfect with ratatouille, grilled vegetables, or spicy sausages.
- Cheese and Charcuterie: Pairs beautifully with a variety of soft and hard cheeses, making it great for casual gatherings or special dinners.
