The beauty of Five Geese spans across 32 Hectares of vineyards located in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia.
Nestled in the north-eastern end of the Willunga basin, Blewitt Springs lies about 180m above sea level. This slightly higher elevation provides a cooler climate than nearby McLaren Vale and Willunga. With cooler temperatures and moderating afternoon sea breezes, the grapes grown here enjoy a long, even ripening season.
Vintage in Blewitt Springs is often some two to three weeks later than the rest of the district. These extra weeks give the fruit time to develop more complex flavour ripeness, without the excessive baumes found in warmer areas. The grapes develop a beautiful balance of flavour, acidity, and sugar, which then translate into complex, but not overly alcoholic wines.
The Five Geese Shiraz is sourced from Blewitt Springs vineyard. The soil is deep sand over clay and is minimally irrigated from a small amount of available surface water.
The Five Geese Grenache is hand-picked from the dry grown, old bush Grenache vines. These gnarly old vines produce a very intensely flavoured Grenache. These vines are some of the oldest in the district.
Five Geese also has vines near McLaren Flat (located at the eastern end of the valley) and from here we source our Cabernet and Nero d'Avola. The deep alluvial iron-rich soils of the vineyard imparts vibrant textures and flavours to the fruit.

The Five Geese McLaren Vale Old Vine “The Pippali” Shiraz is a premium, small-batch Shiraz crafted from dry-grown vines planted over half a century ago in the heart of South Australia's McLaren Vale. This rich, biodynamic red has earned critical acclaim, including a James Halliday Wine Companion rating, a testament to its superior quality and craftsmanship.
Aromatically expressive, it opens with notes of dark cherry, blackberry compote, and cracked pepper, supported by hints of cocoa, cedar spice, and French oak. The palate is bold yet refined, showcasing velvety tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, elegant finish layered with black fruits and savoury complexity.
Matured for 18 months in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barrels, The Pippali is a wine that will shine at the table today or reward patient cellaring for up to a decade.
