The beauty of Five Geese spans across 32 Hectares of vineyards located in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia.
Nestled in the north-eastern end of the Willunga basin, Blewitt Springs lies about 180m above sea level. This slightly higher elevation provides a cooler climate than nearby McLaren Vale and Willunga. With cooler temperatures and moderating afternoon sea breezes, the grapes grown here enjoy a long, even ripening season.
Vintage in Blewitt Springs is often some two to three weeks later than the rest of the district. These extra weeks give the fruit time to develop more complex flavour ripeness, without the excessive baumes found in warmer areas. The grapes develop a beautiful balance of flavour, acidity, and sugar, which then translate into complex, but not overly alcoholic wines.
The Five Geese Shiraz is sourced from Blewitt Springs vineyard. The soil is deep sand over clay and is minimally irrigated from a small amount of available surface water.
The Five Geese Grenache is hand-picked from the dry grown, old bush Grenache vines. These gnarly old vines produce a very intensely flavoured Grenache. These vines are some of the oldest in the district.
Five Geese also has vines near McLaren Flat (located at the eastern end of the valley) and from here we source our Cabernet and Nero d'Avola. The deep alluvial iron-rich soils of the vineyard imparts vibrant textures and flavours to the fruit.
The company’s underlying philosophy is to promote itself by producing premium wines that are recognised as excellent value for money.

The Five Geese McLaren Vale Sue’s Paddock Reserve Grenache 2013 is a limited‑production masterpiece crafted from 56‑year‑old dry‑grown bush vines in Blewitt Springs. A statement Grenache showing purity of fruit and skilful winemaking.
James Halliday awarded this vintage a stellar 94 points, praising its structure and seduction:
“Remarkably pretty, well‑structured, seductive grenache. Fruit is the hero here. Warm ripe raspberry, rose petals, earth and sweet spice with the lightest kiss of musky vanillin. For now or later. Would drink well from a Burgundy glass.”
On the nose, the wine exudes rose petals, ripe raspberry and hints of confectionery—complex yet elegantly restrained. The palate is lifted by ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit, tempered by clean acidity, fine tannins and a savoury edge of spice. Barrel maturation in second‑use American oak (9 months) contributes gentle textural depth without overt oak flavour.
Wine Highlights:
-
