The History of Chardonnay

Chardonnay is one of the oldest white wines in the world, dating back to the 12th century. The wine was originally made from a blend of local grapes, but it grew in popularity in the 16th and 17th centuries thanks to the patronage of French aristocrats. By the 18th century, chardonnay was becoming a popular wine all over Europe. Today, chardonnay is produced all over the world and is considered one of the most popular wine varieties.

What Foods Pair Well with Chardonnay?

When it comes to wine, there are so many different types and styles to choose from. Some wine drinkers might prefer a dry white wine, while others might enjoy a sweet or fruity one. Chardonnay is definitely a versatile wine, and it can be enjoyed with a wide range of foods. Here are some food pairings that we think will appeal to chardonnay drinkers:

  • Baked chicken: This pairing is classic and delicious. Chardonnay is a great wine to use when you want something light and airy, and baked chicken is the perfect vessel. The citrusy flavours of the chicken and the crispness of the vegetables will complement the sweetness of the chardonnay perfectly.
  • Shrimp: Shrimp are another perfect food pairing for chardonnay. The delicate flavour of shrimp pairs well with chardonnay’s natural fruity notes, making for an elegant meal. You can also go ahead and add some spices to this meal if you want – shrimp is a great way to get your spice fix without overdoing it.
  • Grilled cheese: Another nostalgic favourite, grilled cheese is always a hit.

Chardonnay is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed in many different ways. Whether you are looking for a dry white wine to accompany your meal or a fruity dessert wine, chardonnay has something for everyone. Plus, because chardonnay is made from grapes grown in warm climates, it often features flavours and aromas that are well-rounded and complex.
