Irish Coffee Cream Delight Cocktail
Irish Coffee Cream Delight
Let me tell you the story of the Irish Coffee Cream Delight, a drink that warms the soul with its rich history and creamy flavour. The tale begins in the early 1940s in the Foynes airbase, Ireland, where weary travellers often landed after a long transatlantic flight. Seeking to provide comfort, a head chef named Joe Sheridan decided to add a little Irish whiskey to their coffee. This simple yet ingenious addition transformed the coffee into something extraordinary.
As the drink's fame spread, it crossed oceans and won hearts. The Irish Coffee Cream Delight, however, adds a twist to the traditional Irish Coffee. It blends the warmth of coffee and whiskey with the luxurious texture of cream, creating a symphony of flavours that’s both uplifting and comforting.
Ingredients:
- 60ml Irish Whiskey
- 120ml freshly brewed hot coffee
- 30ml heavy cream, lightly whipped
- 15ml brown sugar syrup (you can make this by mixing equal parts of brown sugar and water, heated until the sugar dissolves)
- A pinch of ground nutmeg or chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat your glass by filling it with hot water for a few minutes, then empty it.
- Pour the hot coffee into the glass until it's about three-quarters full.
- Add the brown sugar syrup to the coffee and stir until fully dissolved.
- Add the Irish whiskey to the coffee mixture.
- Carefully float the lightly whipped heavy cream on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon. It should sit on top of the coffee.
- Garnish with a pinch of ground nutmeg or chocolate shavings.
- Enjoy your cocktail without stirring, sipping the creamy layer through the hot coffee.
The Irish Coffee Cream Delight is more than just a drink; it's a cozy embrace on a chilly evening, a piece of history, and a testament to the simple joy of combining familiar ingredients to create something extraordinary. Cheers!
