The fourth in this much talked about limited edition series, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich, draws on rare casks from the legendary Speyside “ghost” distillery of Pittyvaich, a hidden treasure of the whisky world, which closed its doors in 1993 after only 19 years.
This limited edition series sees some of their rarest whiskies reawakened. At the heart of this release is an exception single malt from the "ghost" distillery of Pittyvaich that closed in 1992 after only 18 years of life. The area was once the home and playground of famed Scottish poet Mary Symon, the rolling Speyside hills surrounding Pittyvaich called to mind her renowned poem 'Hame': "It's gloamin' - on a lown hillside, An' lads,... We're ... Hame."
Like the elusive will-o'-the-wisp of folklore, an enigmatic brightness that appear at dusk just long enough for travellers to find their way home, Pittyvaich had a short like but left a distinct and growing legacy. A hidden gem now whispered about the world over for its unique Speyside style.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Sweet fruit notes of fresh apple, gathering with the autumnal flavors of Pittyvaich. Beautifully balanced whisky, with the delicate subtle sweetness of honeycomb and soft wood from the "ghost" whiskies of Port Dundas and Carsebridge.
Palate: Aromas of dark fruit and berries.
Finish: Gentle butterscotch, stewing orchard fruits and a dash of cinnamon.
"This fourth installment of Ghost and Rare targets Speyside, delivering a contemplative nose of roasted nuts, toffee, cinnamon, crisp green apple, candied citrus, late summer honey, and seasoned oak. The palate is satin smooth, with a slightly oily mouthfeel and flavors of golden syrup, oak, orange peel, lime zest, butterscotch, vanilla, dry spice, and smoked orange wheel. A polished and rich Johnnie Walker, elevated by subtle shifts in mood." - Jonny McCormick, Whisky Advocate (91 Points)
