The Balvenie Madeira Cask is a lively and summery single malt finished in casks previously which previously held Madeira wine.

In historic times, ships set sail filled with casks of Madeira wine around the New World. Throughout their journey, casks were exposed to the heat of the sun, naturally sweetening the wine it held.

Malt Master David C. Stewart has enjoyed times exploring the Madeira region and wines they produce, inspiring his experimentation of the cask type for finishing.

This is not the first time David has used Madeira casks - previous expressions have been of older ages. This release has a lighter, livelier character.

"The Balvenie Cask Finishes showcases the breadth and depth of our honeyed house style through a variety of diverse wood finishes. Our very own Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE pioneered this technique of finishing back in the 1980s, making him a leading figure, and expert, in crafting these whisky expressions."

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Overflowing flavours of blackcurrants and brambles slowly layer upon gingery syrup and delicate spice.

Taste: Ripe fruitiness from fresh peaches lead to a citrus orange zing, hazelnuts and crisp oakiness coating the pallet.

Finish: Long lasting.
