Kentucky Owl Takumi Edition is an artfully blended bourbon that provides whiskey lovers an insight into the flavor profiles sought after by a Japanese Whisky Master Blender. It is a special release that brings the best of Japanese whisky making skills to Kentucky Owl’s bourbon range.

Kentucky Owl Takumi Edition was made in collaboration with Master Blenders John Rhea from Kentucky Owl and Yusuke Yahisa from Japan's Nagahama Distillery -- Takumi means "master" in Japanese. Rhea selected and sent over samples of Kentucky straight bourbons with different ages and mash bills to Japan where Yahisa created different blends to reflect his Japanese whiskey style. The final blend includes bourbons aged 4, 5, 6, and 13 years. 

Tasting Notes:

Nose: A savory mix of light rye bread with sweet caramel richness with a hint of tangy fruit salad that tickles the nostrils and pleasantly teases the palate, begging for a taste of the liquid.

Palate: Initial wave of buttery rye bread provides a full-bodied taste and feel from the start. Across the tongue the savory mix of rye and caramel combine into a cinnamon and caramel sauce to bring out some fruitiness, mostly apple and pear.

Finish: A flavorful, pleasant, and lasting finish.

"The nose is like a piece of peanut brittle split in half, with saltwater taffy and sour cherries in the background. On the palate, find rich chocolate syrup, barrel char, and tannic oak, with a spicy and peppery undertone behind it all. "Creamy caramel syrup, well-spiced apple pie, brown sugar, and a burst of cherry make for an enticing nose. Stay awhile, and more aromas emerge: light char is joined by lemon pound cake, baked apples, and vanilla fudge. The palate is silky smooth and offers raspberry jam, maple syrup, coconut flakes, more apples, and hot cinnamon spice; with water, it stays just as enjoyable, if a little less heated.
