Producer Background:
Little Ra Ra is a boutique winery focused on crafting expressive and fun wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Pyrenees region. The winery embraces a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to showcase their true character.
Vintage Notes:
An early frost event in late 2020 was overcome by a very good 2021 harvest. Even and well-spaced harvest periods between varieties made for a less strenuous time in the winery, despite reasonable yields. Significant rainfall throughout the growing season worked to favor, rather than impede, fruit development.
Vineyard Notes:
Pyren’s estate vineyard is farmed organically (uncertified), with sedimentary soils rich with quartz formations. Red/brown clay loam features across the property, with the most elevated vines growing in shallow soils over sandstone and schist formations. Alluvial clay silt is evident at lower elevation, albeit with consistent quartz stone laced throughout. The vineyard is planted exclusively in an E/W orientation, providing invaluable shade to both fruit and earth in the warmest part of the day.
Winemaking Notes:
Hand-picked grapes were fermented with native yeast, featuring individual whole bunch ferments of 13 and 18 days duration. The wine was then settled in tank before resting in 400L French oak for a total of 7 months. The Little Ra Ra Roopa 2021 was bottled without fining or filtration, preserving its natural characteristics.
Flavour Profile:
- Appearance: Vibrant golden hue with a clear clarity.
- Nose: Aromas of white grapefruit, tarragon, and nectarine dominate the nose, showcasing a precise and drinkable character.
- Palate: Textural and bright, with native citrus fruits of pithy desert lime and spongey lemon aspen. The palate is complex and engaging, making it a true standout among skin-contact white wines.
Food Pairings:
Enjoy the Little Ra Ra Roopa 2021 with:
- Seafood: Pair beautifully with fresh seafood dishes, especially those featuring citrus-marinated fish or shellfish.
- Salads: Ideal with fresh, herbaceous salads and citrus-based dressings.
- Goat Cheese: Complement the wine's bright acidity with creamy goat cheese or tangy feta.
