Producer Background

Marco Lubiana, a distinguished winemaker, brings his expertise to the Derwent Valley Chardonnay, grown in the prestigious Stefano Lubiana Granton Estate. Despite the challenges of the cooler, wetter 2023 vintage, Marco's skillful approach resulted in a Chardonnay that exemplifies complexity and balance. The low yields and cooler conditions have contributed to a wine that stands out for its acidity and intricate flavour profile.

Flavour Profile

The Marco Lubiana Derwent Valley Chardonnay 2023 is a cool-climate Chardonnay that shines with high acidity and intricate layers of flavour. Expect notes of citrus, green apple, and subtle hints of minerality. The wild fermentation and time on lees add depth and a creamy texture, while the minimal use of new oak ensures that the delicate fruit remains at the forefront. Decanting is recommended if enjoyed young to fully appreciate its evolving complexity.

Food Pairings

This Chardonnay pairs excellently with a range of dishes. Its acidity and complexity make it a great match for seafood, such as oysters, scallops, and grilled fish. It also complements creamy pasta dishes, roast chicken, and soft cheeses like brie and camembert. For a vegetarian option, try it with a fresh spring vegetable risotto.
