Brothers Blend is the first cognac that the Merlet family produced under its own name in 2010, after 160 years of distilling for major houses. Gilles started producing and bottling some Crème de Cassis and other fruit liqueurs in the 80’s, and when Pierre and Luc joined their father in the business in 2006 and 2008, they decided with him to start working on their own bottled cognac as well. To pay homage to this first father and sons collaboration, they gave the name Brothers Blend to it. Being their first cognac, the three Merlet wanted to create it with a style that reflects their philosophy of production. Therefore Brothers Blend is an elegant and fruit-forward type of cognac, with soft and light wood notes, due to the ageing in mostly old barrels. It is made of a blend of eaux-de-vie of a minimum of 4 years old, up to 10 years old, mostly from the Fins Bois cru, with about one-fifth of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. The delicate profile of Brothers Blend makes it a very versatile cognac, very approachable for sipping, as well as a very good mixing base for cocktails.

Tasting notes - Nose: The nose is elegant and energetic, with notes of cooked apricot, quince, white flowers, cinnamon and vanilla. Mouth: On the palate, Merlet Brothers Blend reveals delicate notes of white fruits (peach and apricot) and subtle wood. A supple and balanced cognac with a pleasant lingering aftertaste.
The Merlet family has been elaborating cognac for merchant houses since 1850. Five generations and over 160 years of experience as distillers have led the family to produce under their own name. Gilles Merlet actually started in the 70’s the cultivation of blackcurrants to diversify the distillery’s activities, and bottled fruit liqueurs first under his own label. It is in 2010, with his sons Pierre and Luc, that they began producing cognac under their brand, alongside their liqueurs. The family owns its own vineyard and distillery, therefore controls its wine sourcing, distillation, ageing, blending and bottling.
