Nelson's Green Brier Cask Series are special, unique expressions of our whiskeys.
Nelson Brothers’ Cask Finish Series represents a glorious union of tradition and creativity in the distiller’s craft: Select barrels of our celebrated bourbon are enlivened by the characteristic aromas and flavors of the special casks that host the final stage of the aging process. Each varietal reveals a startling new dimension of whiskey’s timeless character—and no entry in the series is more startling, or delicious, than the Mourvèdre Cask Finish.
When Nelson Brothers’ bourbon meets the casks provided by our partners at Withers Winery in the Sierra Foothills, the result is an irresistible mélange of aromas and flavors—almond, cherry, sandalwood, currant, black licorice, cumin—that magnifies the best elements of both grape and grain.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Almond, cherry cobbler, sandalwood.
Palate: Currant, black licorice, cumin.
Finish: Black tea, sweet mint, honey.
"The first thing I noticed about this was the dark amber color it has. This is almost certainly partially due to residual wine in the barrels used for finishing, and the same finishing period gives the bourbon an amazing nose featuring layers of oak, cherry, and hints of vanilla underneath. Taking a sip, the whiskey is bold and full, with a pronounced sweetness up front with black cherry leading the way, followed by a slow burn of cinnamon spice and pepper. The mouthfeel of this dram is oily and rich and it has a nice, long finish." - David Jones, Leaf Enthusiast
