This pair of limited editions was released in 2022 and were only available at Japan duty free. Nikka are using more whiskies which "represent the unique character” of each distillery. In the case of the Yoichi Grande, it uses more of Yoichi’s heavily peated whiskies, plus more virgin oak-aged whiskies. For the Miyagikyo Grande, the company says it uses a higher portion of the distillery’s sherry cask-aged malt plus more of that virgin-oak aged whiskies.
The Yoichi 'Grande' further brings out the unique characteristics of the heavy peated malt spirit and new barrel-aged malt spirit that underpin the powerful, full-bodied flavor of "Single Malt Yoichi." It features a rich, mature aroma and gentle sweetness, a harmonious blend of mellow fruit aromas, a soft, smoky aroma, a malty aroma and bitter peat, a rich body, a subtle oak sweetness and a woody, full-bodied finish.
The Miyagikyo "Grande" further enhances the unique characteristics of the sherry cask malt and new barrel-aged malt, which underpin the elegant and vibrant flavor of "Single Malt Miyagikyo." It features a sweet, rich aroma reminiscent of dried fruit from the sherry cask, a fruity and mellow flavor reminiscent of pear, a fragrant cocoa aroma, and a lingering bitter finish
