Spring 2023 Release

Each spring and fall, a new edition to the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond series is released. Inspired by an original 1950's Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter, the packaging and series honor both the history of the Old Fitzgerald brand and the historic Bottled-in-Bond designation.

The Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree, as the brand was first registered in 1884 and was eventually sold to "Pappy" Van Winkle during Prohibition. In 1999, Heaven Hill bought the brand and began distilling it at Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY. Today, in addition to our Old Fitzgerald Decanter Series, the legacy of Old Fitzgerald lives on in our other wheated Bourbons expressions: Larceny Small Batch and Larceny Barrel Proof.

Each limited-edition release comes in a custom bottle inspired by theoriginal 1950s diamond decanter design. The packaging also indicates theseason it was released, the product’s age statement, and its “bottled” date.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Bright burnished copper.

Nose: Brown sugar and molasses in addition to light baking spices with orange peel.

Palate: Gentle on the palate with notes of butterscotch, subtle oak, and cloves.

Finish: Long and warm with tannins and a peppery tingle, followed by a hint of barrel char as the finale.

"An impressive 10 year old whiskey that is a reminder of how great decade old whiskey can be." - Eric Hasman, Breaking Bourbon

"This is really good sipping whiskey. A little ice or water really drives the palate toward the vanilla/cherry creaminess with bitter winter spice barks leaning into espresso oils and more dark chocolate with a light leatheriness." - Zach Johnston, Uproxx (91 Points)

"At the end of the day, regardless of age statement, any given batch of this series has a chance to be a potential stand-out. And Spring 2023 is one of those whiskeys for me." - Jim Vorel, Paste Magazine

"The whiskey is robust and flavorful, a rich spirit that tastes more expensive than it is." - Jerry Jenae Sampson, The Whiskey Wash (90 Points)

"Fans of this series may find this release a bit pedestrian, but for my money it’s a classic representation of what wheated bourbons should be, eschewing the bold grassiness of rye-forward bourbons for a softer, gentler approach. I ended up enjoying it more than many of the older (and pricier) Old Fitzgerald releases, which can get beaten up a bit by the wood they spend so long against. These babies need a more delicate hand, it seems." - Christopher Null, Drinkhacker (95 Points)

"A mix of tart plum and cherry overlap aromas of sweet spices and saddle leather in the nose. The hefty palate reminds of milk chocolate turtle/fudge candies, with salted, roasted nut flavors mixing with caramel, cocoa, and hot cinnamon. The fruit tartness comes into play toward the finish, bringing together a sweet-rich-spicy and slightly salty confection that's best when sipped slowly." - Amanda Schuster, Distiller (92 Points)

"So is this bourbon worth it? That’s really a question only you can answer, but rest assured that the quality of this new whiskey is very, very high. In the case of this particular Old Fitz release, quality actually corresponds with hype." - Jonah Flicker, Robb Report (97 Points)
