Fall 2023 Release
Each spring and fall, a new edition to the Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond series is released. Inspired by an original 1950's Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter, the packaging and series honor both the history of the Old Fitzgerald brand and the historic Bottled-in-Bond designation.
The Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for its distilling pedigree, as the brand was first registered in 1884 and was eventually sold to "Pappy" Van Winkle during Prohibition. In 1999, Heaven Hill bought the brand and began distilling it at Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, KY. Today, in addition to our Old Fitzgerald Decanter Series, the legacy of Old Fitzgerald lives on in our other wheated Bourbons expressions: Larceny Small Batch and Larceny Barrel Proof.
Each limited-edition release comes in a custom bottle inspired by the
original 1950s diamond decanter design. The packaging also indicates the
season it was released, the product’s age statement, and its “bottled” date.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Bright burnished copper.
Nose: Brown sugar and toasted bread in addition to cinnamon and nutmeg.
Palate: Smooth on the palate beginning with notes of peaches and cream, followed by peppery spice and caramel sweetness.
Finish: Spice notes linger in the finish along with peach and pear notes and a caramelised brown sugar finale.
"One of the younger bourbons in the Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond decanter series so far, the Fall 2023 Edition doesn’t disappoint with a bright and lively balanced flavor profile." - Nick Beiter, Breaking Bourbon
"Well, this is delicious as usual. The chocolate notes build and intensify as you take more sips, and are delicious all the way through. The nutmeg note is quite prominent and carried through the entire tasting process, attaching itself to the oak notes in a way that initially made me think of a Christmas Wreath before resolving into its constituent parts. So yeah, it’s really good." - Eric Burke, Bourbon Guy
"Old Fitzgerald’s latest 8 Year Bottled in Bond offering is a testament to the idea that older doesn’t always mean better, especially in bourbon." - David Thomas Tao, VinePair (92 Points)
"All in all, this isn’t necessarily the most complex or unique of these Old Fitzgerald releases, though it does provide a large volume of flavor and is not at all shy about doing so. Easy to enjoy and easy to share, this is among the most crowd-friendly batches that the series has seen in recent memory." - Jim Vorel, Paste Magazine
"No huge surprises here, with a nose of fresh peanuts, well-integrated and slightly leathery barrel notes, and a growing essence of caramel corn. Lightly herbal as it develops in glass, the whiskey ably mixes a perfumed quality with a friendly cookie character. On the palate I didn’t find a lot of variance from the nose, with sultry smooth peanut butter notes dominating with a side of vanilla cookies and milk chocolate. Touches of fruit here — just a little maraschino cherry and some strawberry — moving from there into a lightly charred, vaguely peppery finish. Solid and engaging from start to finish." - Christopher Null, Drinkhacker (90 Points)
"Like there was any doubt what I would score this as soon as I got my first sip. This bourbon is a stellar example of the best this category of American whiskey has to offer." - Nino, Kilgore-Marchetti, The Whiskey Wash (10/10)
