Reviews:
"Penelope Cigar Sessions Chapter 01 delivers exactly what it promises: a bourbon built to shine alongside a cigar, but more than capable of standing on its own. With chocolate, tobacco, caramel, and toffee woven through each sip, it’s indulgent and complex without ever going over the top ... If you’re a Penelope fan, it’s an easy buy. If you’re a cigar lover, it’s a must-try. And if you’ve ever wondered whether a bourbon can truly be designed to pair with smoke — this bottle makes the case." - Tortured Bourbon
"Penelope Cigar Sessions Chapter 1 offers a genuinely enjoyable and well-executed pour, providing good value for a cigar blend release where many brands aim for a higher price point. The nose delivers a pleasant combination of milk chocolate, vanilla, and candied fruit, while the palate offers a medium body with notes of peach, cinnamon, and caramel. While the body is on the thinner side, the finish is rich and moderately long, with flavors of toffee, cinnamon graham cracker, and dark fruit that lean drier and oakier at the end. At cask strength, this whiskey would likely reach the next level, but even as is, it’s a unique and enjoyable blend of whiskies that pairs well with or without a cigar." - Matthew Evans, Whiskey Consensus (87 Points)
"Really, really good stuff. I’d buy this even though I’m not a smoker. It also works out so much cheaper than the equivalent Scottish single malts that are aimed at cigar pairings, too." - Phil Dwyer, The Whiskey Wash
"If you are a fan of cigars, this is a bottle you should purchase if you see it on the shelf. If you’re not planning on smoking a cigar any time soon, I would still recommend purchasing this bottle if you can find it because it does offer very nice flavors with quite a few layers of complexity." - Brad, Secret Whiskey Society
"With more knowledge of cigars, I suspect I would appreciate this first release in the Cigar Sessions series a bit more. Given the cigar expertise of the team behind the blend, there is little doubt that Chapter 1 succeeds in its goal of complementing a medium-bodied cigar and will attract enthusiasts within the cigar community." - Jacob Kiper, Drinkhacker (87 Points)
"Cigar whiskies typically focus on maturation and cask finishing, but Penelope’s take on the style instead involved a focus on blending—in this case, bourbon, American single malt, and light whiskey—and the help of cigar makers Cynn Coburn and Lee Marsh. The nose opens with inviting aromas of apple pie, caramel, and soft baking spice. Chocolate dreams come true on the palate, as chocolate mousse, cocoa powder, oak, and baking spice emerge. More of that rich chocolate on the finish, accented by raspberry, cooked cherries, and cinnamon spice. A true treat!" - Julia Higgins, Whisky Advocate (93 Points)
