Rio de Janeiro, where the vibrant pulse of city life meets the serene beauty of nature. Our latest Polo Edition captures this unique blend, honouring the spirit of the ‘Cariocas’.
Just as a Bossa Nova weaves together the smooth sounds of Brazil, the Royal Salute 21 Year Old Rio de Janeiro Polo Edition blend is an intricate balance of flavours that echo the vibrant culture of Rio.
A portion of this complex blend was aged in first-fill Braeval casks, bringing a fragrant floral nuance to the whisky reminiscent of the city’s lush greenery. These elegant flavours are harmoniously balanced with notes of creamy vanilla and coconut from American Oak matured whiskies, an exquisite blend paying tribute to the smooth soundtrack of a city that dances to its own rhythm.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Poached pears, charred pineapple, lime boiled sweets, vanilla cream, candied walnuts, aromatic toasted oak and sweet floral undertones.
Palate: Honeydew melon slices, tangy green apples, lavish coconut, toffee, white chocolate, salted caramel followed by lively spice of cinnamon and cardamon.
Finish: Sweet, complex and spicy.
"Enduringly soft and rounded as the whisky develops on the palate, a quick bolt of citrus is the only major interruption to the theme of coconut, banana, and vanilla that dominates — with some chewy, toasty malt notes creeping in later in the game. The iconic graham cracker notes of many other Royal Salute expressions I’ve encountered is unavoidable, culminating in a finish that meanders back to vanilla, marzipan, brown butter, and more coconut." - Christopher Null, Drinkhacker (90 Points)
