Where it all began
Tequila has a long and storied history, dating back to the 16th century. At first, tequila was used primarily as a medicinal tonic, but it soon became a popular drink among the colonists. By the early 1800s, tequila had become firmly established as a staple of Mexican culture.

In 1873, Don Cenobio Sauza, founder of Sauza Tequila, became the first person to commercially bottle tequila. Around this time, tequila began to gain popularity outside of Mexico, particularly in the United States.
What is it?
Tequila is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from the blue agave plant in Mexico. The drink is most commonly associated with Mexico and Mexican culture, but it has become popular around the world in recent years. Tequila is typically drank neat, but can also be used in cocktails.

Different Types of Tequila: Silver, Gold and Reposado

- Gold tequila is also made from 100% blue agave, but it is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two months. This gives it a richer, more complex flavour.
- Reposado tequila is aged for a minimum of two months, but can be aged for up to one year. This type of tequila has a smooth, mellow flavour with hints of oak.
Pairing Tequila with Food
When it comes to pairing tequila with food, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, tequila is best enjoyed when sipped slowly, so take your time and savour the flavours.
