Producer Background:
Stefano Lubiana Wines is renowned for its commitment to organic and biodynamic practices that prioritize sustainability and quality. The winery focuses on producing wines that are true to their terroir, emphasizing the unique flavors and characteristics of Tasmanian fruit.

Vintage Notes:
The 2023 vintage provided ideal growing conditions in the Derwent Valley, with a combination of warm days and cool nights that facilitated consistent ripening. This climate allows Pinot Noir grapes to develop exceptional flavor intensity and complexity while retaining acidity.

Vineyard Notes:
The estate vineyards are situated in a cool climate with diverse soil types, including clay and gravel, which contribute to the complexity and minerality of the fruit. These conditions are optimal for growing high-quality Pinot Noir, enabling a slow ripening process that enhances the wine's depth.

Winemaking Notes:
Following hand harvesting, the grapes undergo gentle crushing and fermentation in open-top fermenters using indigenous yeasts. The wine is typically aged in a combination of French oak barrels for 10 to 12 months to enhance its structure and add layers of complexity while allowing the purity of the fruit to shine through.

Flavour Profile:

  • Appearance: Deep ruby red with a luminous hue, reflecting its youth and vibrancy.
  • Nose: Aromas of ripe red fruits, including cherry and raspberry, layered with hints of floral notes, earthiness, and subtle spice from oak aging.
  • Palate: Medium-bodied and elegantly structured, with flavours of pure red berries, a touch of baking spice, and silky tannins that lead to a smooth, lingering finish. The wine balances fruitiness with refined acidity, making it approachable yet complex.

Food Pairings:
Enjoy the Stefano Lubiana Estate Pinot Noir 2023 with:

  • Game Birds: Perfect with roasted duck or quail, enhancing the richness of the dish.
  • Pork: Excellent alongside roast pork tenderloin or dishes featuring fruit glazes.
  • Vegetarian Fare: Pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto or grilled vegetables, complementing the earthiness.
