When it comes to aging Scotch, American oak offers a wonderful palette of flavours to craft with - from delicate vanilla and sweet toffee to gentle spiced notes. Skilled coopers carefully prepare the oak casks to heighten and enhance flavour, knowing simple changes can reveal new worlds of flavour.
To craft the delicate flavours in this smooth Scotch, our small team of whisky makers hand-select whiskies from our distilleries across Scotland, each aged for at least 19 years in American oak casks. Balancing layers of orchard fruits from various distilleries including Strathmill and Glen Elgin of Speyside with very rare expressions from the now silent 'ghost' distillery of Port Dundas.
John Walker & Sons XR 19 is a supremely smooth addition to the XR family with the long maturation revealing notes of toffee, brown sugars and molasses amid sweet, woody flavours. With each sup, the delicate flavour flourishes on the palate to reveal layers of subtle spices and orchard fruits glistening with pepperiness before finishing with a subtle scent of smoke caught on a sea breeze.
Each bottle is individually numbered.
