And when it comes to the Laphroaig 25 Year Old Cask Strength single malt, there’s no doubt that good things are worth the wait. This exquisite 49.8% vol from 2020 blends famously rugged Laphroaig flavours with a mellow sweetness after a quarter of a century in ex-Bourbon casks and barrels once filled with Oloroso sherry.
The whisky is extracted, filtered, and bottled at its natural strength creating an experience equivalent to tasting it at the source – after maturing first. A remarkably smooth mouthfeel is enabled by the full-bodied and well-rounded, flavours of peat smoke and spice balanced by vanilla and apple gliding over the palate. This premium whisky is a product of the long, layered finish, reflecting the patience put into bottling of this premium scotch.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Pale gold, a peek of the complexity created by the careful aging process.
Nose: Restrained smoky flavours and aromas of sweet vanilla, wood spice and smoked bacon, plus a hint of dried fruit.
Palate: Layered and creamy, with flavours of pepper, iodine and peat smoke along with hints of green apple.
Finish: Lingering with waves of smoke and a peppery conclusion.
"The nose is more delicate and elegant than expected, with a combination of creamy vanilla pudding and salinity. The palate offers marzipan, peaches and a bit of tropical fruit with black pepper. Moving towards the back the phenolics kick in, with ash, asphalt, leather, and peat. The finish is brief but captivating, with peat, oyster shells, and a heap of sea salt and black pepper." - Jake Emen, Distiller (96 Points)
