The Vaults 2024 limited release is a marriage of 15 year old bourbons from a collection of old and rare Widow Jane barrels.
After painstakingly selecting each barrel for its depth of flavor, the bourbon is finished in hard-to-source, Amburana wood casks.
Over the past few years, we have set aside a selection of old and rare barrels. Upon identifying a magnificent range, we began a meticulous blending process to create the next edition of The Vaults. True to Widow Jane, these barrels are married together only ever in hyper small batches.
The result is a bourbon unparalleled in its complexity, yet rarer still for its age. This luxuriant whiskey, once married, is then finished in barrels raised with Amburana wood. Also known as ‘Brazilian Oak’,
Amburana grows in the dry jungles of Brazil and Argentina. A challenging environment with poor soil and irregular rainfall lead to slow growth and limited availability. Amburana wood is renown for its unexpected combination of warm spices, floral, and tropical notes. Finishing in Amburana casks produces a bourbon as remarkably smooth and complex as the wood itself. The barrels for The Vaults 2024 release have been intentionally selected to match the complexity and striking flavors of this special, Amburana wood.
Cut with our proprietary limestone mine water from Upstate NY, and bottled at 99 proof, you’ll experience all this whiskey has to offer, from nose to palate to the exceptionally long finish.
Tasting Notes:
Aroma: Amaretto cookie, fig leaf, cherry blossom, honey graham cracker, cinnamon bark.
Taste: Rosemary, cinnamon raison, olive oil, sencha green tea, roasted yam.
Finish: Black licorice, honeysuckle, coconut macaroon, caramelized carrots, satsuma.
"The aroma has a sweet and spicy scent to it with vanilla, cooked apples, and toasted wood spices. The spice level intensifies on the rich palate and a bittersweet taste. The spices seem almost like a mulled wine with rich winter spices like cloves, allspice, and cinnamon. However, it still feels like a bourbon with a depth of flavor brought by the lengthy barrel aging. Full and spice driven, enjoy this on a chilly evening." - Stephanie Moreno, Distiller (90 Points)
"Widow Jane The Vaults 15-Year 2024 edition, is a masterclass in blending, aging and finishing. Its lengthy maturation combined with the finishing in Amburana casks elevates this bourbon to a premium level. While the price point may reflect its exclusivity at $250usd a bottle, the experience it delivers is nothing short of remarkable." - The Bourbon Flight (5/5)
"A three state blend of 15 year old bourbons, which also utilizes a very subtle Amburana finish, results in a surprisingly understated sip." - Eric Hasman, Breaking Bourbon (Above Average)
"The finish remains incredibly tropical, again touched with herbs (more dill) and a reprise of banana and coconut. Hints of strawberry take things in yet another direction on the fade out. There’s nothing about this whiskey that isn’t unique, and even if you’re not normally a fan of amburana, I think it’s something worth tasting at least once." - Christopher Null, Drinkhacker (90 Points)
