Pét Nat Sparkling Wines

Pétillant Natural, often abbreviated as "Pet-Nat," is a type of sparkling wine made using an ancient method called "méthode ancestrale." This method differs from the more widely known "méthode champenoise," used to make Champagne. In the production of Pet-Nat, the wine is bottled before it has finished its primary fermentation, with the natural sugar still present and yeast cells alive. This allows the fermentation to continue in the bottle, which produces carbon dioxide and results in a gently sparkling, often slightly cloudy wine due to the presence of yeast remnants.

Pet-Nat wines are known for their more rustic, natural character and are often unfiltered. They can be made from various grape types and typically showcase a fresh, fruity, and vibrant profile. These wines are appreciated for their approachability, unique flavours, and often lower alcohol content compared to traditional sparkling wines. The popularity of Pet-Nat has grown significantly, particularly among enthusiasts of natural and artisanal wines, due to its less industrial production process and its reflection of the terroir and the grape's pure expression.
